This Full Moon seems to say: Bust out! Break out of your rut! The Full Moon in Aries is conjoined with Uranus by one degree. It’s fused in energy with the planet of revolution, sudden changes, the desire to break free of restrictions. Uranus is about the electricity running through our nervous systems that stimulates us, urges us forward, invites us to look further than our usual horizon line. And Aries is the sign of action, movin’ ahead, taking initiative.
But wait, when we blast out of our constraints, we need to be mindful of where we’re headed, and what damage the shards of our burgeoning awareness might cause. Uranus is a higher octave planet, meaning it operates outside the norm of our day to day cultural and social awareness. Its power is derived from the archetypal world, the powerful energies from the inner realms. When fragile humans are touched by archetypal energy, we can easily become possessed and even dangerously maddened by powerful urges that can override our reason and common sense.
This is especially true now, in that the Full Moon’s conjunction with Uranus also overlaps the Uranus-Pluto square, that long-term influence (which will last for the next 2-3 years) that has been written about here and elsewhere as the signifier of great changes in our world, physically, politically and spiritually as well. This Full Moon is creating a T-square (see diagram) which brings us smack-dab into the middle of the arena of global metamorphosis that is affecting all of us, in almost every area of our lives.
With each of the aspects that are formed by the T-square, Sun and Moon square (90˚) Pluto, Sun opposed (180˚) Uranus, we are dealing with willfulness, with the execution of power. On both personal and global fronts, we must navigate the difficult territories of tension, irritability, erratic behaviors, power grabs, flaunting egos, intense feelings and desires, and abrupt changes of mood.
To add into the mix, there is a second T-square forming at this Full Moon, one which involves Mars, Venus and Neptune (see second diagram).
Our take-action energy, Mars, is in passionate Scorpio, Venus, our receptivity, is feeling desirous of attention in Leo, and Neptune in Pisces is pulling both of them into its dreamy realms of fantasy and imagination. In our personal sphere, our attachments to what we love (or long for) are being intensified, our passions are being activated, but our need for attention and being noticed may get in the way.
The fourth pole of a T-square is the complement and healing edge to balancing its innate tensions. In the first T-square, it is Cancer, the energy of nurturing, mothering, acceptance – all the feminine values that our patriarchally based governments and cultures have discarded in the name of blind Progress, control and domination. In the second T-square it is Taurus, the sign of the Earth, of grounded awareness and common sense, our anchor here in physical reality that requires our care and stewarding of its resources, lest we poison our own well and perish.
There’s no doubt about it: as much as we nostalgically long for the good old days, we cannot go back. We must face our continued decimation of elephants, whales, the oceans, the earth, the destruction wrought by the exploitation of humans in wars, nuclear proliferation and poisoning of the environment, etc. In short, we have a lot of healing to do! And little time to waste bickering over resources and the prejudices rooted in past atrocities. It is time to heal, and the time is now.
If we channel our feelings of urgency and excitation into letting go of old patterns that no longer work for us, cleaning and clearing out, changing what’s not working, finding our own healing paradigms, then we are on the path toward making our corner of the world more livable.
This Full Moon will be bringing to the surface the awareness of what needs to be healed. Meditation, in whatever form you practice it, is essential during this time, as tensions will be running high. It may be wise to lay low, to retreat and let the forces of nature work their way on you in the inner worlds, without needing to demonstrate or act upon your new realizations right now. Let them grow and mature and in time, they will develop into wisdom. Use Cancerian energy to nurture yourself and others. Use Taurean energy to ground yourself so that if lightning strikes, it will have somewhere to go.
On October 5th, Saturn will enter into Scorpio for the first time in 29 years, and on Oct. 10th, it will exactly trine (form a harmonious angle of 120˚) Neptune. This aspect has been building for a year now, and will become exact on October 10th. This rather rare aspect between these two giant energies can give us deep revelations about ourselves and our world, revelations which can light the way through difficulties and inspire us with vision. Court that vision by practicing being receptive, quiet and empty of your own thoughts. Great things are possible, perhaps even necessary, in order to navigate these turbulent waters. Saturn and Neptune will trine each other twice more in 2013, and then not again for 23 more years. Though the pressures are on, the potential for transformation is great.
